Members of the Tinley Park Plan Commission have given their blessing to a developer’s proposal to sell 10 acres to the Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago, which sees the property as a possible church site.
Commission members voted last week to recommend the Village Board grant approval to a change in the Radcliffe Place planned unit development, at the southwest corner of 175th Street and 84th Avenue. If the board approves the change, builder Gallagher & Henry can sell the 10 acres it owns on the site.
Commissioner Pat Radecky, who works in an archdiocese-run office, abstained from the vote.
The site was intended for single-family homes. Because the archdiocese would build fewer units on the property, the change requires village approval.
The archdiocese also is in negotiations to buy about 10 more acres there; that land is held by a private owner, an archdiocese spokesman said.
If a church is built there, the spokesman said, a school also might be considered.
