Booming Randall Road may get busier now that the Plan Commission has recommended approving annexation and conditional-use requests for a Sam’s Club warehouse store proposed at Randall and Mill Street.
A portion of the 28-acre site already is in the city. Wal-Mart Stores Inc., which owns Sam’s Clubs, is requesting the annexation be extended with business zoning for the entire site.
Under consideration is a commercial planned development with Sam’s Club occupying about 17 acres on the southwest side and three to four businesses on five acres to the east along Randall Road. Some of the remaining acres would be classified as a floodplain and wetlands area.
Village officials have said the outlet would create about 125 full- and part-time jobs. Construction would start this fall with the store expected to open by spring 1999.
