Downsizing can be a move up in maintenance-free living.
That’s what Centrum Properties is offering at Middlefork Woods, a 39-unit condominium development in north suburban Northfield.
The five-acre project is planned for three buildings with residences ranging in size from 1,920 to 2,812 square feet and in price from $374,900 to $568,900.
Construction has begun on the first three-story building, which will be ready for first occupancies next March, according to John McLinden, partner in Chicago-based Centrum Properties. A model is scheduled to open next April.
McLinden said the project was designed for empty-nesters on the North Shore who want to move out of their large single-family homes after their children are grown.
“Empty-nesters can downsize without sacrificing amenities and space,” he said.
Four different single-level condos are offered, plus a two-story townhouse-style unit with a penthouse and sundeck. They have two or three bedrooms.
The maintenance-free project includes two parking spaces for each unit in an underground garage. Also standard are nine-foot ceilings, oak or marble foyers, crown moldings, marble fireplace surrounds, security systems, balconies or patios and storage lockers.
The landscaped grounds will have a walking and jogging path and private vegetable garden areas.
Middlefork Woods is located on Old Willow Road, just north of Willow Road and a half-mile west of the Edens Expressway.
