Irresistible television: It took a real-life story that could have been made for TV to get Buffalo Grove couple Ramamohan and Deepa Mahidhara to sign up for cable. In a household where the TV controls could gather dust for lack of use, the family has been watching the Disney Channel this month
The show capturing their attention was the 1998 Disney’s Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra concert. Taped at Ravinia on July 3 and airing throughout August, the program showcased 85 youngsters ages 10-12 who were chosen from more than 5,000 applicants. Among the players was the Mahidharas’ 10-year-old daughter, Pallavi, who played violin in the orchestra and performed a piano solo.
The family has been reliving the memorable occasion. “This was really special,” Deepa Mahidhara said, explaining why they had to get cable.
