The long-vacant site of a controversial nightclub on North Avenue in Glendale Heights might become the scene of a prototype for a full-service restaurant franchise.

Plan Commission members Tuesday night heard a proposal to open 602 North, at the northeast corner of North Avenue and Glen Ellyn Road, the former site of Crickets nightclub. The new establishment would be a sit-down restaurant geared to an older crowd.

Officials said they want to see more details on landscaping, security and floor plans before approving the project. Another public hearing is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Village Hall.

The restaurant would serve food until midnight and alcohol until about 2 a.m. weekends, said Marty Olsen, the village’s community development director.

Crickets closed and lost its liquor license in July 1996 after an owner, Andrew Gountanis, was arrested on gambling and drug charges.
