Romeoville is considering an ordinance that would spell out procedures for repaying the Romeoville Fire Department for the cost of cleaning up hazardous-material spills.

Fire Chief Carl Churulo said dealing with hazardous substances is costly.

“On any one call . . . we can spend thousands and thousands of dollars,” he said.

Because of the cost, most fire departments have repayment procedures, he said.

In other business, Greg Anderson, community development director, presented a development plan for a residential subdivision near the northeast corner of Weber and Romeo Roads.

The land behind the new Dominick’s grocery store under construction is zoned R-6, which permits construction of attached residential units, Anderson said.

Community Home Builders proposes to build 161 units, some single-family homes built in clusters and some duplexes.

A berm and a fence would screen residences from the commercial area, Anderson said.
