Officials at Mokena Elementary School District 159 are hoping to borrow about $200,000 from the state to beef up the district’s technology program.

Supt. Roger Reardon said the district wants to borrow $196,450 at 2.5 percent interest over three years. The district would buy equipment and set up computer clusters in the 2nd- and 3rd-grade wings at Mokena Elementary School.

Over the last few years, the school district has been pushing to make technology more available to students at Mokena Elementary and Mokena Junior High School by adding computer labs as funds become available.

This month, the school board learned that the district qualified for a Technology Literacy Challenge Grant.

That $135,000 grant will pay for software, computers, printers and staff development.

In other business, the school board finalized hiring for the 1998-99 school year.
