A 14-year-old boy was ordered held Monday in the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center pending a September hearing on aggravated battery charges after a weekend stabbing in Palatine.

Police said the boy, of unincorporated Palatine, went to a home in the 900 block of Tower Court on Saturday evening seeking revenge against another juvenile for a fight during a party at the home the night before.

After exchanging words, the 14-year-old allegedly grabbed a steak knife from the kitchen and stabbed the victim once in the back, according to Palatine Police Sgt. Alan Stoeckel.

The victim, who has not been charged, underwent surgery at Northwest Community Healthcare in Arlington Heights, according to Stoeckel. The victim’s condition was not available late Monday.

A third boy who allegedly assisted the 14-year-old also was cited with aggravated battery in a juvenile petition, police said. He was released to his parents pending the Sept. 1 hearing in Juvenile Court.

Stoeckel said police were seeking a third person, possibly an adult, who allegedly accompanied the 14-year-old to the townhouse Saturday.
