In an effort to drain potential flooding problems, the Batavia City Council has approved a $40,000 contract to excavate and refill a portion of the Crestview recharge-detention basin.

The basin is between the Crestview Meadows subdivision–one of six subdivisions flooded in the July 1996 storms–and the Carriage Crest subdivision. Warrenville-based H.J. Paver will remove about 1,700 cubic yards from the basin and add about 800 cubic yards of pea gravel to the floor to help storm water get to the ground.
The council waived taking bids on the project because the excavating company can dump the material without charge at a South Elgin landfill.
The council also approved spending $5,000 to have Saupp Tree Service remove undergrowth from the site.
