O PIONEER!
By Frederik Pohl
TOR, 254 pages, $21.95
In this latest science fiction novel by Chicagoland author Frederik Pohl, a clever computer hacker named Evesham Giyt leaves Wichita, Kan., and travels by faster-than-light transportation to Tupelo, a “Peace” planet newly colonized by humans but already populated by lively, non-human species. Pohl’s superb dialogue, wit and vision will draw readers of all tastes, even those who might not normally seek out novels that feature characters like Mrs. Brownbenttalon, an opinionated, curly-haired anteater.
