The options for retirement living continue to expand in the Chicago area.
Now comes Carillon North, a new active-adult community designed for those 55 years and older. Cambridge Homes plans to build 377 residences on a 123-acre site in north suburban Grayslake.
Prices are expected to range from the mid-$100,000s to the low-$200,000s for the seven townhouse and the five single-family home designs. All homes will feature single-level living.
“We have based Carillon North on the success of the original Cambridge-at-Carillon community in the Plainfield area,” said Richard J. Brown, chairman and chief executive officer of Cambridge Homes.
The new gated development will cater to north suburban residents of retirement age who would enjoy social and recreational pursuits with others in their age group, but who do not want to move away from friends and family, according to Brown.
Earth moving is under way at the site, which is off Rollins Road between Illinois Highway 83 and U.S. Highway 45.
First to be constructed will be eight models and an 8,000-square-foot recreation center, which will be equipped with an indoor/outdoor pool, theater, fitness center, library and arts and crafts room.
Another amenity will be a nine-hole golf course, which may be ready for play as early as the fall of 1999, said Brown.
Sales for Cambridge North, which are expected to kick off in early September, will take place at the World of Cambridge center at 832 S. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville.
