Marquardt School District 15 has received state and federal grants totaling almost $750,000 to supplement both its middle school renovations and curriculum.
The largest is a $597,000 state construction grant to help renovate the entire second floor of Marquardt Middle School. Open space areas will be converted into 20 closed classrooms, and a new science laboratory and other science teaching stations will be built. A computer lab will also be relocated and 30 new computers will be bought, District. 15 Supt. Lawrence Golden said.
The project also includes adding more durable lockers and rewiring classrooms for electronic equipment. It is the second phase of a two-year renovation program at the school. Golden expects the work to be completed next summer.
The district also received two curriculum-related grants.
