Three local boys were arrested Wednesday in connection with the loss of three trees outside Schaumburg Village Hall in June.

Sgt. Michael Marchese said that during questioning, the youths also admitted cutting down three more trees–two at Collins Middle School, 407 S. Summit Drive, on July 20, valued at $1,500 total; and one in the parkway at Huntington Lane and Omni Drive, value unknown.

Marchese said that besides cutting down trees, the boys confessed to tipping over two statues near Village Hall and Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Ct., July 13, 14 or 15.

One boy is 12 years old, and the other two are each 15 years old, police said. All three live in the village. They each were charged with criminal damage to property and were released to their parents pending a court appearance scheduled for Aug. 24.

During police questioning, the youths allegedly admitted they used a hand saw to cut down the trees at the Village Hall, which had trunks 6 inches in circumference and cost $2,000 total to replace. Police could not say what motivated the vandalism.
