Three volunteer committees have been created to build voter support for two Batavia Library District referendum proposals on the Nov. 4 ballot. The library is asking voters to approve the sale of $8.8 million in bonds to build a new library and for a 6-cent tax increase for operating expenses.

One of the three, the Neighborhood Contact Committee, hopes to add at least 30 more volunteers so information can be distributed in each of the town’s 19 precincts.

“That committee really needs more volunteers than the others because it is working at the grass-roots level,” said Margo Cooper, library director.

The committee will present information to potential volunteers at 10 a.m., Saturday and Aug. 21 and at 7 p.m. Monday and Aug. 24 at the library, 335 W. Wilson St. Call Cooper at 630-879-1393 for more information.
