Officials hope to seal a deal within a week that will give much-needed parking relief to downtown Oak Park Avenue merchants.
“We are in the process of reaching final negotiations” over the purchase of land at 17318 Oak Park Ave. for use as a parking lot for businesses in that area, Mayor Ed Zabrocki said this week.

On-street parking is at a premium along Oak Park in the village’s historic district, especially during the day. Business owners there long have expressed a need to find ways to alleviate the situation.
At the Aug. 4 board meeting, trustees approved spending $66,800 for the lot, which is the appraisal price, according to Zabrocki, who said the village agreed to relocate an old schoolhouse on the property for the historical society.
