Mary Clumpner, economic development director, resigned her position at the Mokena Village Board meeting Monday night.
The resignation becomes effective Sept. 1.
Clumpner was an assistant village manager in Homewood before joining the Mokena village staff in December, and earlier served as village administrator and village treasurer in East Hazel Crest.
Village Administrator John Downs said Clumpner is expected to take an administrative position in another south suburban community.
“In the eight months she’s been with us, she’s done much to kick-start our economic development,” Downs said.
The economic development position created last year plays a key role in Mokena’s push for more business and commercial growth, which Mayor Robert Chiszar has declared a priority.
He said the resignation was accepted regretfully. “She has given us a good, strong idea of what we need and how that program should work. It’s going to be very tough to replace her,” the mayor said.
During her tenure in Mokena, Clumpner developed village promotional materials, worked on downtown redevelopment and researched business development.
