Schaumburg firefighters housed at Fire Station No. 1 learned Thursday that they may not get all the aesthetic renovations on their wish list for the building exterior.

The Village of Schaumburg’s Planning, Building and Development Committee members recommended site plan approval for $150,000 in work, which include new curbs; sidewalks; new driveway and parking lot pavement; bushes, trees and perennial flowers for front and rear landscaping; and a new fenced-in patio with a picnic table and a trash enclosure.

The station, at 1459 W. Schaumburg Rd., is among the village’s oldest, and parts of the property do not comply with village code.

Some of the bushes planned for the back of the building next to the parking lot bothered Trustee George Dunham.

“I don’t see the wisdom in spending money to landscape the back of a building,” Dunham said.

Members accepted the plan on the condition that rear landscaping alternatives be presented at the September committee meeting.
