Lake County Sheriff’s police are investigating a car crash that killed a 15-year-old girl and sent her mother and brother to a hospital.
Lauren Sieben of 3450 Waterford Way, Island Lake, died Tuesday after the car she was riding in veered off a road and landed in a ditch in Mundelein, police said. The accident occurred at 4:15 p.m. in the south ditch of Gilmer Road at South Sylvan Drive.
Sheriff’s police said the driver, Valerie Sieben, 48, was heading west on Gilmer Road when her car left the roadway and rolled into a 7-foot ditch. They said the 1991 Plymouth Colt station wagon rolled over once before resting upright.
Police said all three passengers were wearing seat belts, but the passenger’s side roof caved in on Lauren, who was pronounced dead at 5:05 p.m. at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Sieben and her son, Jeremy, 14, were taken to Condell Medical Center in good condition.
Police said there were no witnesses to the accident. Neither alcohol nor speeding were factors in the accident, but wet road conditions may have contributed to the crash, police said.
