The Joliet City Council has approved the purchase of three buildings to add land to the city’s sprawling Broadway Greenway Park along the west bank of the Des Plaines River in Joliet.
The three properties, a single-family home located at 1408 Broadway and two apartment buildings at 800-804 Broadway and 350 2nd Ave., are scheduled to be razed this fall.

The buildings, all of which are dilapidated, according to Joliet officials, will be acquired for a total of $175,000.
The purchase, approved this week, adds a third leg to the 2-year-old greenway, which is located between Ingalls Avenue and Moran Street. Another 10 pieces of land south of the park and 15 pieces to the north have yet to be acquired to add to the park, which includes a public river walk, the officials noted.
