BRIDGET JONES’S DIARY

By Helen Fielding, Random House Audio, 3 hours, abridged, $18. Read by Tracie Bennett.

This British sensation hit American shores earlier this year, and now Bridget Jones is having her way with U.S. admirers. The diary of the 30-something single woman flows with the energy and insouciance of someone in love with life but desperately seeking to make it better. Actress Tracie Bennett (“Shirley Valentine”) reads this ’90s take on Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice” with all the joie de vivre the thoroughly modern tale deserves.
