A pretrial hearing will be Aug. 28 for a Joliet man accused of using a child’s name in sexually graphic Internet messages.
Charles Gary Rogers, 40, pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Will County Circuit Court to two counts of transmitting obscene messages through the Internet. The charges involve two separate messages posted to a number of Internet message boards.
Rogers, who was indicted by a grand jury July 1, is alleged to have used the name and telephone number of a 9-year-old neighbor girl in Internet messages offering sex.
The family, which has since moved away, learned of the messages when they began receiving phone calls.
The charges against Rogers are Class B misdemeanors, and are the only charges which can be filed under current law, according to Lisa Las, spokeswoman for Will County State’s Atty. James Glasgow.
