Republican committeemen in Downers Grove Township are scheduled to caucus in late August to select a candidate to fill the vacancy on the ballot that resulted from the death earlier this month of DuPage County Board member Robert J. Day.
Before his death, Day was one of two Republicans running in November for the two seats on the County Board up for election from District 3. The district includes all but a sliver of Downers Grove Township in southeastern DuPage.
State Sen. Kirk Dillard (R-Hinsdale), the township’s GOP chairman, has appointed a screening panel to interview and evaluate potential candidates. But the decision will be made by precinct committeemen at a meeting Aug. 24.
Potential candidates should contact Dillard before Aug. 12.
