The College of Lake County has teamed up with Motorola and three other community colleges to offer students a new associate’s degree in electronics manufacturing technology.

The CLC Board of Trustees on Wednesday approved the new two-year program, which is primarily intended to help Motorola employees upgrade their technical skills.

The program was developed through a partnership also involving Elgin, McHenry County and Harper Community Colleges. Each college serves areas where the company operates.

Students at all institutions are eligible to take the program. Student-employees can attend classes and transfer credits to complete the associate’s degree at any of the participating colleges.

The curriculum consists of 67 credit hours of instruction in electronics, physics and economics, as well as work-site internships.

The program will start in January, pending approval by the Illinois Community College Board.
