If you’re a senior citizen and feel you’ve been scammed by a phony telemarketer, listen up.
The Lincolnshire Police Department will offer a free presentation Monday on telemarketing and mail fraud. The session is designed to teach seniors how to detect phony sales pitches and fake advertisements that solicit money for services or products.
Police said the presentation is designed for the elderly because statistics show that more than half of those who have lost money in fraudulent schemes are senior citizens.
A video on telemarketing scams will be presented by the American Association for Retired Persons. Postal Inspector Leo Lally of Chicago will speak about mail fraud.
The presentation begins at noon Monday in the Lincolnshire Village Hall meeting room, 1 Old Half Day Rd. To register, call 847-883-9900.
