A Glenview man was killed Sunday night when his car hit the back of a semitractor trailer on U.S. Highway 41 in Lake Forest.
Yoo Kwon Lee, 42, was pronounced dead at the scene about 11:30 p.m., said Lake County Deputy Coroner Jim Whipper.
The accident occurred at 11:20 p.m. at the intersection of Westleigh Road and U.S. 41. Whipper said Lee was heading north when he ran into the back of a truck that was stopped at a red light at Westleigh Road. He said Lee may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
Whipper said Lee was traveling about 55 m.p.h. He said Lee was driving alone and died of multiple head and chest injuries.
Lee was not wearing a seat belt, and there was no airbag in the car, Whipper said.
Whipper said the truck driver, who was not injured, was unaware that his vehicle had been struck from behind and drove away. A short distance away, a motorist stopped the truck driver and told him that he had been hit, Whipper said.
Lee lived with a brother, Soon.
