Working under the assumption that some detached town homes are better than none, developers altered their proposal and received the Tinley Park Plan Commission’s approval on rezoning for their unique housing plan.

Commissioners voted 4-2 to recommend that the Village Board rezone 40 acres at Interstate Highway 80 and Oak Park Avenue from single-family to allow town homes and that they grant a special-use permit for the development, to be called West Point Meadows.

The plan now calls for West Point Builders to construct 135 town homes in the attached style and 105 detached. They had wanted to build 227 detached units, separated by about 6 feet.

“It’s below the standards we’ve been setting in this village for years,” said Commissioner Pat Radecky, who voted against the proposal.

“I didn’t know the village was so desperate to fill up all the land in this town. That’s like living in Bridgeport,” added the former resident of that Chicago neighborhood.
