Despite a momentary wobble on the final hole of the day, Carbondale’s Diane Daugherty put herself in good position Friday to win her second Illinois Women’s Open championship in four years. After shooting a 5-under-par 67 at Odyssey Country Club in Tinley Park, Daugherty is at 139 and leads former LPGA Tour player Nicole Jeray of Berwyn (72-70-142) by three shots with 18 holes to play.
Two-time defending champion Kerry Postillion (143) of Burr Ridge and Margie Arnold of Orland Park are four back.

Daugherty, who won the first Women’s Open in 1995 and finished second to Postillion last year in a playoff, would have an even bigger cushion if not for the double-bogey six she took on the 360-yard 18th hole.
“I feel like I kind of let everybody back into the tournament right there,” said Daugherty, the golf coach at Southern Illinois University for 13 years.
