Tinley Park Village Board members voted 5-1 Tuesday night to approve a contract allowing a construction company to design the structure and obtain price estimates for the town’s convention center.
Trustees authorized the expenditure of $10,000 to allow McShane Construction Co. of Rosemont to carry out the design work, which is being subcontracted to Arete3 of Orland Park.
Tinley officials want the center built next to a hotel at Interstate Highway 80 and Harlem Avenue, with the ground-breaking this fall.
Arete3/McShane were chosen for the project in March.
“They’ve done quite a bit of work without a contract, which is quite bold of them,” Assistant Village Manager Craig Hullinger said before the meeting.
“We want to get the full cost of the proposal,” Trustee Pat Rea said in explaining why this portion of the contract was being voted on now.
