Motivated motorcyclists: When Harley and Honda engines rev up today for a 60-mile ride from Oakbrook Center to Sugar Grove, the proudest biker in the group will be Dr. James Winterstein, president of the National College of Chiropractic in Lombard.
Last year, Winterstein was Illinois’ champion fundraiser for the Ride for Kids benefit, raising $10,000 for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. This year his goal is $15,000. The national, non-profit organization uses entry fees and rider pledges to fund research.
“I became interested in Ride for Kids through Sgt. Rick Montalto of the Lombard Police Department,” said Winterstein, a motorcycle enthusiast since 1973. “Rick maps the route and makes arrangements for our ride.
“I want every child to have a chance in life,” he said. “And I know for a fact that, with this organization, the money raised goes where it’s supposed to go.”
