A really big shooo: It’s no surprise when Chicago draws big-name entertainers, but when Tempo Lake heard that comedian Jackie Mason would be appearing at Zanies Comedy Nite Club in Vernon Hills this month, a call was in order to hear what made the suburban club a better venue for the headliner than a downtown theater.
Size, according to Zanies general manager Bert Haas. While working on the summer talent lineup for his four Chicago-area clubs, Haas heard that Mason wanted to polish his latest material in a small–but not tiny–house.
Vernon Hills’ 300 seats fit the bill. “He was looking for something intimate,” Haas said. “The farthest seat from the stage in Vernon Hills is just 42 feet. And Vernon Hills draws an audience similar to Chicago. It was the perfect venue. I’m excited. He’s a comedy legend.”
