The Keep Des Plaines Beautiful Commission voted Tuesday night to re-dedicate a monument that had been booted out of its old home because of downtown redevelopment projects.
The commissioners unanimously voted to re-dedicate the Vietnam War Memorial at its new location, near the intersection of Jefferson Street and River Road.
The memorial, formerly located near the Des Plaines Mall, was moved earlier this year after downtown redevelopment projects displaced it, said Commission Coordinator Pamela Rosinia.
A garden at the memorial’s new location will be cared for by a local chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America, commissioners said. A plaque that had been damaged by vandals is being replaced by a new brass one, thanks to All Saints Monument Co., a local business.
“It was a wonderful gift,” Rosinia said.
