The polo players are gone, but the equestrian sport will be well remembered in west suburban Glendale Heights.
The mystique of the game will live on in the name of a new housing development called the Polo Club. It will be built on the site of the former Glendale Polo Club
The horse barns and grandstands at the old polo grounds are being torn down to make way for 266 new homes on the 63-acre site.
Established by Harold Reskin in 1975, the Glendale Polo Club had a successful run until 1996, when it was closed following Reskin’s death. In its heyday, the venue attracted amateur matches and some famous polo players, including Cecil Smith, Mike Azzaro, Michael Butler of “Hair” fame and Maj. Ronald Ferguson, father of Sarah Ferguson, the duchess of York.
