Glendale Heights trustees on Thursday night tentatively approved a $38.5 million budget that includes a new water tower, more park renovations and additional amenities at Village Hall.
Officials said that although the general fund to cover most village expenses is up slightly, the overall budget is a bit smaller than this year’s. Final approval of the 1999 fiscal year budget is expected at the July 23 meeting.
With a windfall from interest income and bids for some capital projects coming in at lower-than-expected levels, the village will add a water tower at Burdette Avenue to strengthen water service in southeast Glendale Heights. Village Hall also will get additional landscaping and new benches and an upgraded security system. The Police Department’s locker room will also be finished. And extra landscaping will be added at Armitage Ditch. These projects will total $1.8 million.
An additional $150,000 will be spent on park improvements. After some trustees complained that parks in their districts weren’t getting amenities, the board voted to add the extra funding. The Parks Committee is to prioritize which parks need such items as new benches and playground equipment.
