The New Lenox Plan Commission decided Monday night to continue until Aug. 3 a public hearing on an open-space study that calls for the creation of an extended greenway where residents would have a rural atmosphere.

The decision to postpone the hearing came because the consultants working on the proposal did not have the final documents ready in time for the Monday-night hearing.

The study commissioned by the Village Board proposes a network of green spaces connecting all areas of town.

Different types of open space, such as wetlands, flood plains, parklands and subdivision open space can be linked together, according to consultants from The Lannert Group, a land-planning firm.

Old Plank Road Trail, a railroad right of way between Park Forest and Frankfort, is expected to be a key component of the New Lenox greenway when it is extended into the village later this year.

Village officials plan to incorporate the study into the town’s comprehensive plan.
