Officials of two longtime farm services firms in Will and Grundy Counties announced Thursday that they have merged their two companies.

James Tyler & Sons Inc. of Elwood and Ty-Walk Liquid Sales Inc. of Minooka have combined to form Tyler-Walker Ag Services. The merger creates one of the largest providers of agricultural services in northern Illinois, with annual sales expected to exceed $50 million.

The company will maintain offices in Elwood and Minooka.

“Meeting the increasingly complex needs of today’s and tomorrow’s farmers was our goal in merging,” said Richard Tyler, general manager of James Tyler & Sons and a grandson of the company’s founder.

James Tyler & Sons was founded in 1927 by James Tyler and has been operated by three generations of Tyler family members since its inception. Ty-Walk Liquid Sales was established in 1962 by members of the Tyler family and Daniel T. and Robert D. Walker of New Lenox. Robert Walker acquired the Tyler family’s interest in the firm in 1977.

The newly merged firm will provide farmers with a wide range of services, including domestic and foreign marketing services, rail shipping, grain storage, brokerage services, trucking, seed sales and farm fertilizer and chemical applications.
