Wheeling village trustees have rejected a proposed townhouse development that would have brought 84 units to 9.6 acres on the northeast corner of Hintz Road and Jackson Drive.
The project failed to win support at Monday night’s Village Board meeting because several trustees said they preferred to have individual houses rather than townhouses on the site, which is zoned for single-family homes.
Nathan Wynsma, representing Palatine-based Concord Development Corp., argued that “excessive development costs” and physical layout of the parcel made the site better suited for townhouses. Wynsma said his firm had already contracted with six landowners to secure the parcel.
Trustee William Spangenberg said single-family homes selling for $400,000 each have recently been built adjacent to the site in Prospect Heights.
