Fire Chief Carl Churulo told the Romeoville Village Board recently a five-member foreign fire tax board could be formed to oversee the use of tax money collected on fire insurance premiums paid to out-of-state companies.

Village Atty. Ray Meader has drawn up a proposed ordinance to establish the board, which is expected to be voted on this month, the chief said.

The village receives $6,000 to $8,000 a year in out-of-state fire tax revenues, and that figure, earmarked for Fire Department improvements, is expected to go higher, he said.
