Trustees have spelled out the details of a plan to allow some extra temporary signage for businesses disrupted by recent construction work on U.S. Highway 30 in New Lenox.
The ban on advertising banners will be lifted from Aug. 1 to 31 for businesses on U.S. Highway 30 between Church Street and Tonell Avenue. The size of the banners is limited to 3 by 10 feet.
The resolution allowing the banners was passed in an attempt to help businesses regain customers lost when road construction on U.S. Highway 30 ran overtime and caused traffic backups.
The roadwork began in the spring of 1997, went beyond its autumn completion date and continued into the spring of this year.
The Village Board also recently approved a cable television franchise agreement. Officials said it allows for competition among cable companies, free service to schools and a $75,000 payment to the New Lenox Cable Access League.
