Chicago’s residential construction boom has moved to the city’s Far Southeast Side.
Grove Park Village is planned for 116 single-family homes on a 13-acre site at 98th Street and Commercial Avenue in the Veterans Park neighborhood.
“No new housing project of this size has been built in the area in 40 years,” said developer Paul Bertsche of C.A. Development Inc.
Grove Park Village is a joint venture of C.A. Development and Bradich Construction Inc.
The three- to five-bedroom homes range in size from 1,134 to 1,855 square feet and in price from $124,990 to $174,990. Seven floor plans are available, including split-level bungalows and two-story Victorian-style designs.
Much of the land for the new project was acquired in the purchase of the former St. Michael Archangel Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church.
Ground has been broken for two models–the Oak and the Poplar Plus, which should be completed in 90 days, Bertsche said. He said the first residents should move in this fall.
Most of the homes will face mature woods that were part of the church’s picnic grove, which will be converted into a 2 1/2-acre park with walkways, benches and playgrounds.
Lots at Grove Park Village range from 30 to 35 feet wide and 104 to 138 feet deep. All homes will have a sodded and landscaped front yard, a patio and a parking pad. A two-car garage is an option. Most residences will include English basements.
A sales center is at 9855 S. Commercial Ave.
