Olympia Field’s Village Board is expected to finalize a rate increase July 13 on the sewage/water user tax, which for the average homeowner will mean an increase of $46 a year.

An engineering study seven years ago suggested an increase, but the Village Board tried to hold off on a rate hike. The board says it has run out of options to keep the sewer/water repair fund solvent. Repairs to the sewer/water system are costing $250,000 annually, forcing a fund deficit of close to $60,000. The village also constructed a new water tank this year.

The 33-cent increase, from the current $1.20 per 1,000 gallons to $1.53 per 1,000 gallons, will be in place with the next billing cycle. All additional revenue will help cover system repairs and maintenance.
