The Tinley Park Village Board voted Tuesday night to give final approval to an agreement to build a 12-acre detention pond that will provide flood relief to the village and neighboring Orland Park.
The agreement covers the construction and maintenance of Pond G, a detention area planned for 171st Street and 80th Avenue in Tinley Park on Park District property commonly known as “the farm.”
The agreement involving the village, its Park District, Orland Park and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources spells out financial and maintenance responsibilities.
Fernway Park, an Orland Park subdivision, will be a major beneficiary of Pond G, but several Tinley Park subdivisions also will benefit, officials have said.
The state’s share of the project’s cost is $724,000; Tinley Park’s, $930,000; and Orland Park’s, $819,000, Tinley Park Village Manager Dave Dorgan has said. The Park District will be responsible for pond maintenance.
That site was chosen for the pond because two tributaries of Midlothian Creek converge there.
