Q. Is “The Lion King,” which won the Tony Award for best musical, coming to Chicago? And, if I wanted to see it in New York, how could I get tickets?
A. We’ll have to wait at least until the new millennium to see “The Lion King” in Chicago. According to Peter Schneider, president of Walt Disney Theatrical Productions, the first cities to get productions will be Tokyo, at the end of this year, and London, in 1999. Then, in 2000, Schneider says, “We’ll roll out nationally.”
Meanwhile, to buy tickets for the New York production in the beautifully restored New Amsterdam Theater on 42nd Street, try calling the “Lion King” hot line at 800-755-4000 (which is often busy), or check on your computer at www.ticketmaster.com. Tickets are now on sale through Oct. 31, 1999.
