The first round of contracts for Lincoln-Way High School’s major expansion project was awarded this week.
“We’ll be starting to move dirt on Monday. We want to start seeding fields by Sept. 1,” said Ron Price of Henry Bros., the construction management firm overseeing the conversion of the freshman-sophomore East Campus in Frankfort and the junior-senior Central Campus in New Lenox to four-year high schools.
At a Lincoln-Way High School Board meeting in New Lenox, a $678,145 contract was awarded to Henry Bros., of Hickory Hills, for earthwork, paving, concrete and athletic fields and scoreboard construction.
A $88,584 contract for site utility work was awarded to Dawn Co. of Frankfort.
A $54,450 fencing contract was awarded to Action Fence of Palatine, and a $69,400 contract for electrical work at both sites was awarded to Choice Electric of Orland Park.
District Supt. Lawrence Wyllie said the original intent was to ask contractors to bid on the entire project.
“Because of the high volume of work currently going on in the construction business, we decided to break up the package to individual bid packages so we could attract more bids,” he said.
The contracted work will begin at district property at Cedar and Laraway Roads and at the Frankfort campus.

The establishment of two high schools will include adding 50 classrooms, a swimming pool and athletic fields at each campus and an auditorium at the Central Campus.
The $60 million project approved by voters in a March referendum is slated for completion in 2001. The expansion is needed to handle growing enrollment, school officials said.
