A plan to build a hotel on Everett Lane will not go through unless the developer secures financing and produces a favorable feasibility study, Mokena officials said this week.

John Vujevich’s request for a special-use permit to allow construction of a 92-room, four-story Travelodge at 19255 Everett Ln. was a hot topic at a joint workshop meeting Monday of the Village Board and Economic Development Commission.

Trustees, who are expected to vote on the special-use Monday, postponed a vote on the proposal last month after residents in the nearby Willow Walk condominiums and Grasmere subdivision expressed concern about the effect of a hotel on the neighborhood.

Mayor Robert Chiszar, who met with residents, said the developer has been asked for more details. “We worked with the residents,” Chiszar said. “We want (the hotel) to blend with the neighborhood and make it all right.”

Vujevich and Travelodge representatives have agreed to a northbound exit so traffic would be directed away from the residential areas and trucks will be kept out of the parking lot, the mayor said.

“It looks like the concerns were answered,” Trustee Frank Fleischer said. “There’s a lot of checks and balances.”
