A DuPage County Board committee voted Tuesday to approve plans to build a 2,400-square-foot concrete pad at the county government complex in Wheaton to accommodate an animal-education day camp.

The county will spend about $24,000 to pay for construction of the pad at the northwest corner of Manchester and County Farm Roads, as well as new landscaping and the rental of a tent. The plan will allow the county’s animal control unit to move its popular summer day camp outdoors.

Officials say that there is no longer room for the summer program inside the nearby animal control facility. Moving the program to the tent also will allow a larger number of children to enroll, officials say.
