A bid to operate a carpet showroom business out of a Schaumburg home was shot down unanimously by trustees this week during a Village Board meeting.

Pamela Siligmueller, 224 Lundy Lane, wanted to sell wholesale carpets from home.

The plan was to show carpets by appointment only with no more than six customers per day. However, her neighbors objected to the home business because of concerns over safety and traffic.

“(Customers will) be walking in front of my home, and they are strangers to me and I oppose it,” said Peggy Long, who lives next door.

Trustees on Tuesday denied the request for a special-use permit, saying the business would affect the quality of life in the neighborhood.

“I have a real concern that we are continuing to eat away at our residential neighborhoods,” said Village Trustee Tom Dailly.

Siligmueller said she never had any intention of disrupting the neighborhood. “There are so many other home businesses that generate more traffic than us, such as home day care,” she said. “We didn’t think traffic would even be an issue.”
