player ready...A legislative town meeting held Wednesday evening by state Rep. George Scully (D-Flossmoor) touched on the mechanics of state government and its impact on local problems and issues.
It also gave Scully, a first-term representative seeking re-election, a chance to highlight his accomplishments during his second year in office.
Scully said his greatest legislative triumph was his role in procuring a one-time $1.1 million grant for the beleaguered School District 201-U, which serves Crete, Monee, University Park and part of Park Forest. School officials credit the special funding with allowing them to restaff 15 positions for the next two years. The school board recently cut 70 positions because of a more than $3 million budget shortfall.
Scully also told the crowd, largely from Steger and neighboring South Chicago Heights, of his role in obtaining $500,000 for Bloom High School District 206, which serves those two villages.
