Tinley Park will spend $3.3 million during the next three years on flood-prevention projects, including the purchase and demolition of two houses, officials said.
The measures will be funded primarily by the village, but village staff members are trying to obtain some state and federal help, Trustee Mike Bettenhausen said, noting they hope to schedule meetings for residents.
“Residents have to understand there could possibly be some trees lost and things like that,” he said.
Two homes in the Sundale neighborhood are targeted for demolition, and the land will be used for stormwater detention. Plans also call for increasing the capacity of the pump station that removes water from the Sundale detention pond.
Storm sewers also will be installed in the Parkside area, located east of Oak Park Avenue at 169th Street. And within two years, Tinley Park also plans to remove 275 work in Brementowne that will remove 275 homes from the flood plain. Smaller flood-relief projects are on tap for 68th Court, Tinley Terrace, 175th Street at 66th Avenue and Theresa Lane.
