The Kane County Board on Tuesday granted a request from the Loyal Order of Moose to build a 10,000-square-foot medical center on the grounds at Mooseheart, the children’s residential facility the Moose operate near Batavia.

The County Board unanimously approved a zoning change for the property during Tuesday’s scheduled meeting in Geneva. Approval came after Mooseheart officials assured board members the facility would never be transformed into any other kind of business and, if the medical center were closed down, the structure would be given to Mooseheart for use as it sees fit.

The property was rezoned to restricted business from farming, and Kane’s land management plan calls for the 1,200-acre Mooseheart campus to remain an institutional setting.

The clinic is to be built in conjunction with Rush-Copley Medical Center of Aurora and Delnor Community Hospital of Geneva to serve Mooseheart residents and the surrounding community. It is to be built in Batavia Township within Batavia’s plan boundaries.
