Des Plaines District 62 has agreed to a 5-year deal with its teacher assistants, including yearly raises of four percent.

The contract, which takes effect Aug. 1, also will give the assistants a 1.2 percent wage adjustment in the first year and slightly bump starting salaries.

The district employs about 50 teacher assistants, and Deputy Supt. Ray Gunn said the agreement likely will cost an extra $165,500 over the five years.

The teacher assistants are the last in a series of employee groups to receive new contracts from the district in recent months. The other groups include regular classroom teachers, classified personnel and unionized custodians.
